I recently traveled to Sydney with my wife for her birthday and with permission, she allowed me to take my camera with me :)

This is just one of the shots I managed to shoot near the base of the Harbour Bridge. When I was taking this shot (30 seconds is a long time to wait) there were sooo many wedding photographers snapping away and I can understand why. I mean seriously with a back drop of the Opera House I think it is a definite must for newly weds who live in Sydney to have this in their wedding album!!!

Anyway this is my take of the Sydney Opera House which I am sure there would be photographers out there who would have taken it with the exact same composition :) I guess it is like Perth’s most photographed boat house the “Blue Shed” hahahaha well not as iconic though

Last Thursday Graham and I set out again on a adventure to capture Perth at night. We started at King’s Street. Maybe the street just wasn’t photogenic enough, or maybe the cold night hadn’t warmed up our fingers to do the clicky clicky :) Who knows what it was for not being able to capture King’s Street, but as all adventures go, we needed to press on!!!

We ventured to Council House based on Graham’s (have to give credit where it is rightfully due) suggestion that the building was lit. Must say we were quite taken back at the beauty of the neon lights that were dancing around the building, and with some careful composition here are my shots. No doubt Graham will try to up-stage me of course.

This shot is of the main entrance to Council House. To me it looks like a entrance to a UFO :)

In this shot I wanted to capture the various colours of neon light, I had to increase the ISO in order to keep the shutter speeds fast. If shutter speed was left too long you will simply get a blue representation (a mixture of all the neon colours mashed into one). I could have increase the aperture to drop the shutter speed but I wanted to maximise DOF.

This is another image I found from my archive, it was taken in Applecross many sunsets ago :) I like the simplicity of the image, perhaps it is the rule of thirds being applied in this image that drew me back to this image.

It is amazing what you can recover from a raw image file. The sky in the original image was all blown but I managed to recover the detail in the sky using the gradient filter in ACR.

Wow… hadn’t realised it has been more than a month since I posted something / anything on my blog. I was going through my images and found this, the moving (or sense of moving) clouds is what caught my eye. it goes to show that it pays to not delete images, you may look at older images with different eyes.

I took this shot over the weekend so that I could it in the EOS 1-Wall competition held by Canon, entry details can be found here. The theme for this month is “sustainability” and so decided to take this very cliched shot of a newly sprung bean plant growing in the vegie patch. Leave a comment if you like it :-)

Wednesday night (7:15pm) I had a call from Graham asking if I was interested in doing some night photography. He has been wanting to “paint with light” for some time now so this was his opportunity. So here we were meeting up at 8:45pm at UWA do some light painting of the famous boatshed on Mounts Bay Rd is Crawley. This shot was taken when I noticed that the moon was fairly low on the horizon. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite low enough so with a bit of photoshoping, I managed to do a “drop” alteration. I “drop”ed the moon. This is really the first time I managed to do this image manipulation and I think for a first time effort it is not that bad.

Woke up this morning and noticed the moon was bright and round. Found out that today/yesterday was a blue moon. Unfortunately I had to use my crappy 90-300mm lens in order to get close and to obtain the horizontal compression.

This image was taken at North Quay last week. Graham and I were scouting picture opportunities to enter an Eizo competition held by team digital www.teamdigital.com.au Unfortunately I have not managed to find any suitable images for submission. So here is my post that in my opinion shows the working side of Fremantle.

This Salmon sashimi entree created by Jeannie was absolutely yummy and it tasted as good as it looked. This was one of the many dishes prepared at the Liew residence on the summer solstice celebration when we were in KL.  Thanks guys for having us over, unfortunately I didn’t take pics of the spare ribs but it was yummy too.

Hope you like this food image Matt :)

These are a small sample of the photos taken during the Perth Wedding. The weather on the day of the wedding was excellent for a summer’s day especially since the lead up to the wedding day was a yo-yo. Just 4 days to the wedding had the weather forecast just under 40s, then thunderstorms were predicted. There is a shot here that shows the ominous clouds blowing in take heavens we missed the rain :)
